The Tripods Attack!

Hey, all!

Howdy, folks!
Well, sorry for the LONG delay between my last post and this one! Short version of what’s been going on since:
-WE HAVE A BABY! Yes, little Claire Annelise McNichol hit the atmosphere at 11:17 pm on Friday, January 29th! 6 lbs even!

Jeanna called me at work about 4:15 pm. “John, my water broke…”

SAY NO MORE! Nope, when you’re having your 7th, it’s no different than your first. I made the usual number of friends on the highway as I zipped in and out of unhappy motorists’ lanes, halfway hoping a cop would bust me so I could truthfully say “My wife’s having a baby, officer!”

7 kids, now, and not a single cop stop. Oh, well! ;) Claire is very healthy

-I am still chugging away at Emperor! I have finished ripping through all 200,000 + words of the first draft with my red pen (perspective: The final published draft of The Tripods Attack was 122,000), and now I’m hitting the word processor to put my inked stuff into more easily published pixels. I’ve chopped a lot of verbiage already, and I’ll be dunky-hory happy if I can get it down to even more manageable proportions by the time it hits the stands!

All for now- Claire is sleeping on my chest as write this- it’s a tad past midnight, and I’ve got to go back to work tomorrow (took the week off from the coolest job in the world, left my classes in the hands of a Most Excellent Sub, but still a little leery about seeing what awaits on my desk when I return!) Hopefully, when I try to get back into my usual routine of up at 5am, walk/jog, write/edit a few pages, shower/shave/suit up, I won’t have fallen too far out of the habit!

God bless,

John McNichol

PS: Please pray for friends of mine who are struggling in their marriages. A quick one will be fine. Also for two of my school parents who recently suffered losses in their families, both for the souls of the departed and for comfort for their families still here.

Thank you!

John McNichol was born in Toronto, Candada, at the dawn of the swinging 70s...which explains in part why he's such a fan of the Big 80s! John lived in Toronto for the first eighteen years of his life, after which he went to school at Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. He met his lovely wife there, and after graduation in 1992 moved to the West coast. Except for a three year teaching gig back in the midwest, he's lived on the Left Coast ever since. Today, John lives with his wife, Jeanna, their seven children and the Dumbest Dog in the State of Washington in a lovely little house in Vancouver, Washington. He teaches Middle School in the Archdiocese of Portland, and enjoys it tremendously, still.
